U.S. Highway 98 Business - Pensacola

U.S. 98 Business East
The first 14 blocks of U.S. 98 Business constitute the western extend of five-lane Garden Street. From Navy & Pace Boulevards eastward, Garden Street travels through residential areas through to the Barrancas Avenue intersection. This photograph displays the first reassurance shield in the eastbound direction. The sign erroneously omits a Business Banner. Photo taken 12/21/03.
U.S. 98 Business eastbound after the merge of Barrancas Street occurs. Garden Street continues with a center turn lane through to the A Street intersection. There the highway becomes more scenic and attains a tree lined median. Photo taken 12/21/03.
An old style Business U.S. 98 reassurance shield was found just east of the Garden Street intersection with A Street. It was replaced by 2005. From this point into downtown, U.S. 98 Business travels through the historic district of the city. Photo taken 12/21/03.

Garden Street eastbound at Palafox Street. Palafox Street bisects the heart of downtown and is home to Pensacola's Saenger Theatre. Northward the street facilitates movements to Interstate 110 northbound via the Chase Street on-ramp. Further north Palafox Street becomes U.S. 29 at Cervantes Street. Photo taken 12/21/03.
Customized light posts and other features accent the historic nature of downtown Pensacola. Featured here is U.S. 98 Business eastbound between Palafox and Jefferson Streets. The two avenues compose the main commercial drags through the central business district. A second old style Business U.S. 98 reassurance shield was posted to the right. Photo taken 12/21/03.
U.S. 98 Business eastbound at Tarragona Street. Tarragona Street is lined with railroad tracks from the Pensacola city pier northward to Wright Street. The north-south roadway also intersects Chase Street at the on-ramps to Interstate 110. Ahead is the Pensacola Civic Center and the turns onto Alcaniz and Chase Streets. Photo taken 12/21/03.

U.S. 98 Business West
Interstate 110 sees two northbound ramps from central Pensacola The western on-ramp begins via Chase Street and downtown. The eastern ramp departs Gregory Street (Business U.S. 98 westbound) adjacent to the Pensacola Civic Center. This photograph displays the sign bridge posted for the U.S. 98 Business split with Interstate 110 northbound. Winds from Hurricane Ivan destroyed the sign for Interstate 110. Photo taken 12/06/03.
Business U.S. 98 continues toward downtown Pensacola as Interstate 110 traffic ascends onto a viaduct. The Grand Hotel high rise to the right is probably Pensacola's tallest structure. It suffered serious wind damage from Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, and Katrina over the course of 12 months in 2004-05. Photo taken 12/06/03.
U.S. 98 Business (Gregory Street) westbound at the southern terminus of Florida 291 (Alcaniz Street). Alcaniz Street carries U.S. 98 Business southward two blocks to the westbound beginning of Garden Street. Florida 291 follows the one-way street couplet of Davis Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from Gregory Street north to Florida 295 (Fairfield Drive). Photo taken 12/06/03.
Business U.S. 98 (Garden Street) westbound draws to a close at U.S. 98 (Navy Boulevard) and Florida 292 (Pace Boulevard). U.S. 98 west enters the intersection overlapped with Florida 292 westbound from the north and overtakes the Business U.S. 98 trajectory along Navy Boulevard westbound from here. Both roads travel west to Warrington. Photo taken 05/14/02.
