U.S. Highway 98 Alternate

Designated the Eastern Shore Parkway, Alternate U.S. 98 follows the original routing of U.S. 98 in western Baldwin County. It traverses the coastal areas while serving Fairhope and Montrose. The local favorite hangout of the Fairhope Pier and associated city park are situated just west of the parkway south of Fairhope.

Towards the southern terminus is this old style U.S. 98 Alternate shield. Reassurance shields along the coastal route are generally Scenic Baldwin County 98 pentagons instead of the U.S. badge. This section of the Eastern Shore Parkway is quite scenic, with an abundance of trees surrounded by a quaint neighborhood. Photographed not far from the southern terminus. Photo taken 11/01.
Alternate U.S. 98/Scenic Baldwin County 98 sign assembly at the southern edge of downtown Fairhope. The Scenic route takes various twists and turns along its bayshore trek. The stretch of roadway in downtown Fairhope is closed for Mardi Gras parades during the wintertime festivities. Photo taken 11/01.
Northbound Alternate U.S. 98 in downtown Fairhope. This one-piece four-way traffic signal adds to the small town America flavor of this area. At the next traffic light is the shopping district of Fairhope, with various shops and boutiques scattered about. Photo taken 11/01.
