The two routes meet only one state road along their short cosigned stretch. Florida 33 is a divided highway that extends north toward Interstate 4 at Exit 38. Photo taken 11/20/03.
Florida 33 follows Lakeland Hills Boulevard to the north and Massachusetts Avenue to the south; U.S. 92-98 continue for another few blocks together before they split. Photo taken 11/20/03.
Westbound U.S. 92 and northbound U.S. 98 splits in Lakeland at this intersection. Photo taken 11/21/03.
West of Lakeland, U.S. 92 enters Winston. Here, U.S. 92 westbound approaches Florida 572 (Airport Road) south to Toll Florida 570/Polk Parkway and Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. To the north of this intersection, Polk County Route 542A (Galloway Road) aims for Polk County Route 35A to Gibsonia and U.S. 98 northbound. Photo taken 11/20/03.
Westbound U.S. 92 reaches the intersection with Florida 572 (Airport Road) and Polk County Route 542A (Galloway Road) north. Note the use of a smaller font "A" on the county shield. Photo taken 11/20/03.
Florida 553 is a short, divided highway that connects U.S. 92 with Interstate 4 at Exit 22 in Plant City. Florida 553 (Park Road), along with U.S. 92 and Florida 566 (Thonotosassa Road) create an unofficial business loop for Interstate 4 through Plant City. Photo taken 11/19/03.
Now in Plant City, westbound U.S. 92 approaches the intersection with northbound Florida 39 (Wheeler Street). The two routes briefly merge for a few blocks, but Florida 39 continues south again via Collins Street. Florida 39 ultimately travels south to Florida 60 between Brandon and Mulberry. To the north, Florida 39 ultimately connects to U.S. 301 in Zephyrhills. Photo taken 11/20/03.
North of downtown Tampa, westbound U.S. 92 and northbound U.S. 41 split at this signalized intersection between U.S. 41/Florida 45/Nebraska Avenue north, Florida 45/Nebraska Avenue south, and U.S. 92/Hillsborough Avenue west. U.S. 92 will turn south off of Hillsborough Avenue at Dale Mabry Highway (Junction Florida 580). Photo taken 12/27/01.
U.S. 92 "bumps" Florida 580 at the intersection between Dale Mabry Highway and Hillsborough Avenue. Westbound U.S. 92 turns south onto Dale Mabry Highway, while westbound Florida 580 continues straight ahead on Hillsborough Avenue. Eastbound Florida 580 travels north on Dale Mabry Highway from this interchange. Photo taken 11/27/03.
Westbound U.S. 92 crosses the Gandy Bridge, which was opened in originally in 1924 as a toll bridge and replaced in 1956. A second span was added in 1976 to accommodate increasing traffic demands on the causeway and bridge. A third span opened in 1996, and the 1956 span was turned into a fishing pier and hiking trail. All three spans are visible in this photo (from left to right, the eastbound lanes are the 1976 span, the westbound lanes are the 1996 span, and the fishing pier is the 1956 span). The bridge carries U.S. 92 across Tampa Bay and connects to Gandy Boulevard on either side. Photo taken 12/27/00.
This view of the oldest of the three bridges, which is now a part of the Friendship Trail, a foot and bicycle route across Tampa Bay. The newer bridges are situated to the left (south) of the fishing pier. Photo taken 11/20/03.
This view of the Gandy Bridges is afforded from the shore of Hillsborough County looking west over Old Tampa Bay. Photo taken 11/20/03.
Entering Pinellas County along U.S. 92 west, midway across the Gandy Bridge between Tampa Bay and Old Tampa Bay. Photo taken 11/08/06.
A myriad of state roads come together at the Gateway area junction of Gandy Boulevard (U.S. 92 west) with 4th Street North and Roosevelt Boulevard. Florida 600 ends silently here; Florida 694 and 686 begin, and Florida 687 enters from 4th Street North to join U.S. 92 southward to downtown St. Petersburg. Photo taken 11/08/06.
What was once planned as an interchange is now a busy five-way intersection with a large grassy median. This is the U.S. 92 junction with 4th Street North (Florida 687) and Roosevelt Boulevard (Florida 686). U.S. 92 west & Florida 687 south share pavement southward to 5th Avenue North in downtown St. Petersburg; Florida 694 continues Gandy Boulevard southwest to Pinellas Park; Florida 686 veers northwest to St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, and Florida 687 north continues 4th Street North to Interstate 275 and the Howard Frankland Bridge. Photo taken 11/08/06.
Interests to Interstate 275 north should take Florida 687 (4th Street North) directly to the partial "Y" interchange (Exit 32) at Old Tampa Bay. Drivers bound for Interstate 275 south need only take Gandy Boulevard's continuation via Florida 694 to Exit 28 of the freeway. Photo taken 11/08/06.

Nearing the final junction of U.S. 92 west, the east end of Florida 595 (5th Avenue North). Photo taken 04/15/07.
5th Avenue North carries Florida 595 west from U.S. 92's western terminus to junction U.S. 19 and 19 Alternate at 34th Street North. The alignment represents historic routing of both U.S. 19 versions. Florida 687 continues southward along 4th Street North into downtown. Florida 687 north follows adjacent 3th Street North to 5th Avenue North. Photo taken 04/15/07.
An older look at the U.S. 92 eastern terminus. Note that there is no "END" Sign assembly for U.S. 92 - it just fades out at this point. Photo taken 12/27/00.
