U.S. Highway 90
U.S. 90 travels along the storm ravaged Mississippi coastline through Pearlington, Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Gautier, Pascagoula, and Moss Point. Much of the route suffered tremendous damage during the August 29, 2005 landfall of Hurricane Katrina. Bridges over St. Louis Bay and Biloxi Bay were virtually destroyed by the powerful storm surge from Mississippi Sound. The highway also was washed away along the coastal routing between Pass Christian and Gulfport. Recovery efforts have been slow, but the highway is open in its entirely with the exception of the bridges between Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian and Biloxi and Ocean Springs. New spans are planned for each, but completion of them is slated for 2007 or 2008.
