Big Bend Road is a conduit to suburban sprawl due to its folded-diamond interchange with Interstate 75 (Exit 246). The east-west arterial connects the freeway with growing areas out toward Balm-Riverview Road. A place worth a visit to the west is the Manatee Viewing Center, a fee-free facility that allows visitors to view Manatees gathering in the warm outflow waters caused by the adjacent Big Bend Power Plant (open November to April only). Meeting U.S. 41 at Fletcher Avenue is Florida 579 west and Hillsborough County 582A east. Florida 579 occupies just the stretch of Fletcher Avenue between U.S. 41 (Nebraska Avenue) and U.S. 41 Business (Florida Avenue), a distance of 0.499 miles. Photo taken 11/10/07.
Fletcher Avenue carries at least four overall lanes west to Florida 597 (Dale Mabry Highway) and east to Interstate 75 at Morris Bridge Road. Hillsborough County 582A follows the arterial from U.S. 41 east to Interstate 75 & Hillsborough County 579. Additionally a .505-mile stretch of Fletcher Avenue leading into Armenia Avenue (Hillsborough County 587A) is considered a part of Hillsborough County 582A.
