U.S. 27 South - Georgia to Capps

U.S. 27 South
US 27 (Monroe Street) leaves the six-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 10 and quickly intersects Mcginnis Arm Road north and Callaway Road south. An array of traveler services buffet the commercialized arterial around the freeway. Photo taken 12/31/06.
A second signalized intersection quickly slows traffic along U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) southbound at Lake Shore Drive. Lake Shore Drive represents an unsigned routing of Leon County 63A northward to Ford's Arm of Lake Jackson. Leon 63A loops northward through residential areas before turning east to Leon County 155 (Meridian Road) near its over crossing of Interstate 10. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Monroe Street through north Tallahassee represents a typical Florida commercial arterial. Here US 27 sinks toward the Tallahassee Mall with four overall lanes. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Allen Road leads southward from Fulton and Sharer Roads and the Sugar Creek Village shopping area to U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) at Tallahassee Mall. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Southbound motorists next encounter the signalized intersection with John Knox Road east and Monticello Road south. Monticello Road links U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) with Leon County 158 (Tharpe Street) near Levy Park. John Knox Road comprises a multi-lane arterial eastward from Tallahassee Mall to Trousdell Park and junction Florida 155 (Meridian Road). Photo taken 12/31/06.
Approaching Leon County 158 (Tharpe Street) on U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) southbound. Leon County 158 stems west along Tharpe Street to junction Florida 263 (Capital Circle Northwest). Photo taken 12/31/06.
U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) south at Leon County 158 (Tharpe Street). Tharpe Street east continues a short distance to Florida 155 (Meridian Road) as unsigned County 158. Tharpe Street west consists of a four-lane arterial from Monroe Street to Godby High School at Ocala Road. Photo taken 12/31/06.

Tallahassee's numbered avenues exist south of Tharpe Street and north of Brevard Street. U.S. 27 passes Lake Ella Park and approaches 7th and 6th Avenues as Monroe Street straights out on the approach to downtown Tallahassee. Photo taken 12/31/06.
While much of U.S. 27 continues the commercialized frontage scene, nearby streets directly enter residential areas. Pictured here is the signalized intersection with 5th Avenue. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Third Avenue facilitates the movement from U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) south onto Florida 61 (Thomasville Road) north. Thomasville Road leads northeast to Interstate 10 and junction U.S. 319 (Capital Circle Northeast) for Bradfordville and the growing northeastern suburbs. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Florida 61 (Thomasville Road) south merges with U.S. 27 (Monroe Street) ahead of the short 1st Avenue. The two combine with little fanfare outside of this mast-arm supported traffic light. Photo taken 12/31/06.

Junction U.S. 90 shield posted ahead of the U.S. 27 & Florida 61 (Monroe Street) southbound intersection with Tennessee Street. U.S. 90 west serves interests to Florida State University. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Unisigns posted above U.S. 27 & Florida 61 (Monroe Street) southbound at U.S. 90 (Tennessee Street). U.S. 90 acts as a long distance business loop of Interstate 10 from the Midway area to the west and the Killearn area of east Tallahassee. The highway primarily consists of a four to six lane commercialized arterial through the city. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Continuing south of U.S. 90, Florida 61 is again ignored on the U.S. 27 reassurance shield assembly. Call Street crosses paths with Monroe Street in the distance. Photo taken 12/31/06.
Park Avenue consists of a one-way street couplet between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Meridian Street. The parkway-like road is also a historic district that is home to the Knott House Museum, the new Tennyson condo tower, and the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. Photo taken 12/31/06.
The intersection of U.S. 27 & Florida 61 (Monroe Street) and College Avenue is a little reminiscent of New Orleans with street side architecture. College Avenue ventures westward to the Wescott Building of FSU at Copeland Street. Photo taken 12/31/06.
U.S. 27 & Florida 61 prepare to split at the Monroe Street intersection with Apalachee Parkway east. Also in the mix is the westbound beginning of Florida 366 (Jefferson Street / Pensacola Street). Florida 366 follows a one-way street couplet between Stadium Drive at Doak Campbell Stadium and Monroe Street. Photo taken 12/31/06.
U.S. 27 and Florida 61 part ways in the shadow of the Florida State Capitol complex. U.S. 27 follows the four lane Apalachee Parkway eastward to Capps in Jefferson County. Florida 61 continues Monroe Street south to Gaile Avenue and the hand off between Florida 363 from Crawfordville Road. Photo taken 12/31/06.
