A collector/distrubutor roadway handles all movements between U.S. 17 south and Interstate 40. Travelers destined for Wilmington International Airport (ILM) should use Interstate 40 east while those bound for Interstate 95 at Benson should use Interstate 40 west. Photo taken 11/11/06.

U.S. 17 southbound at the Interstate 40 westbound off-ramp and westbound beginning of Interstate 140. Interstate 40 continues six miles to Castle Hayne and 92 miles to Interstate 95. A more appropriate city, and one used on signs further south, should be Raleigh for the Interstate 40 westbound destination. The capital city is a 117-mile drive. Photo taken 11/11/06.

Approaching the trumpet interchange with U.S. 17 Business north, U.S. 421 south, and U.S. 76 east into downtown Wilmington on U.S. 17-74-421 south. When Interstate 140 opened to traffic north of Wilmington, U.S. 17 was relocated to follow the new freeway east to Pender County, creating U.S. 17 Business along parts of the original alignment.
