Interstate 310 Louisiana

Interstate 310 is a freeway spur joining the greater New Orleans metropolitan area with U.S. 90 near the town of Boutte. The freeway provides a direct connection between U.S. 90 and the cities of Houma, Morgan City, and Raceland, with Interstate 10 and New Orleans. Originally envisioned as the westernmost leg in the unconstructed Interstate 410 New Orleans beltway, the freeway opened in stages between 1983 and 1992.

The Interstate 310 viaduct comes to an abrupt end just shy of U.S. 90 near Boutte. This photograph looks northward from the shoulder of U.S. 90 at the stub ends of the twin viaduct. While this interchange is presently the southern terminus, when Interstate 49 is extended eastward from Lafayette and Houma to New Orleans metro, Interstate 310 will extend a short distance southward and directly tie into the new freeway. This will give a seamless freeway from Interstate 10 to Houma, Morgan City, and other Acadiana communities. Photograph taken at the onset of a severe thunderstorm during June of 2001.
