Future Interstate 295 stretches westward from Interstate 95 at U.S. 13's southern terminus near Wade. The 7.5-mile freeway opened initially between U.S. 401 (Ramsay Street) and River Road in 2003. Completion of the connection east to Wade occurred by 2005.
Work is set to begin summer 2009 on the western extension of the beltway to North Carolina 24 & 87 (Bragg Boulevard). Construction should take three years to complete.
The remainder of the beltway heading south from Bragg Boulevard and east back to Interstate 95 remains unfunded at this time. It is unclear when work will commence on finishing the western and southern thirds of Interstate 295.
