Interstate 277 North
Interstate 277 north & U.S. 74 eastbound nearing the Exit 1E ramp departure. A collector/distributor system facilitates the movements of the Interstate 277 freeway to College Street, South Boulevard, and Caldwell Street via three separate ramps. Attached to the Tryon Street overpass is the Exit 1E overhead for the c/d roadway split from Interstate 277 north & U.S. 74 eastbound. The College Street cloverleaf ramp departs ahead. The junction with South Boulevard and Caldwell Street is a three-quarter cloverleaf interchange. Photo taken 10/05/01.
Interstate 277 & U.S. 74 turn northeastward at the Exit 2A interchange with North Carolina 16 & Kenilworth Avenue. The departing off-ramp splits between ramps to Kenilworth Avenue southbound and Third & Fourth Streets. Third & Fourth Street represent the North Carolina 16 alignment from Interstate 277 southward for two blocks. The state highway eventually travels Third Street to Providence Road. North Carolina 16 northbound merges onto Interstate 277 from Third & Fourth Streets (Exit 2E partial cloverleaf interchange). A short distance to the north, U.S. 74 eastbound departs the Interstate 277 freeway via Exit 2B (Independence Boulevard). A tri-level stack interchange composes the junction between the two freeways. Situated near the U.S. 29 & North Carolina 49 (Graham Street) undercrossing is the 0.75 mile guide sign for the northern terminus interchange of Interstate 277. Unsigned Exit 4A/B composes a directional cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 77 & U.S. 21 and North Carolina 16 north (Brookshire Freeway). Photo taken 10/05/01.

Exit 4A of Interstate 77 & U.S. 21 southbound depart Interstate 277 & North Carolina 16 at the Hamilton Street overpass. The ramp merges onto Interstate 77 from the left. Ahead is the Exit 4B ramp departure for Interstate 77 & U.S. 21 north. Interests to Interstate 85 northbound are advised to utilize this ramp. A better alternative to Interstate 85 southbound over Interstate 77 is to continue along the Brookshire Freeway westbound to Exit 36 of Interstate 85. Photo taken 10/05/01.
Interstate 277 northbound draws to a close at the Interstate 77 & U.S. 21 northbound off-ramp. North Carolina 16 continues as an expressway between Interstate 77 and Interstate 85. A partial interchange resides to the west of this junction with Beatles Ford Road. At Bellhaven Boulevard, North Carolina 16 transitions into an at-grade facility (three blocks south of Interstate 85). Photo taken 10/05/01.
Interstate 277 South
Interstate 277 begins and travels with North Carolina 16 along the Berkshire Freeway from the directional cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 85. A loop ramp carries drivers onto Interstate 77 & U.S. 21 north two miles to junction Interstate 85 and 37 miles to Statesville. Photo taken 06/22/05.
