Interstate 85 North Carolina shields on Edgewood Road northbound at the Bessemer City (pop. 5,119) interchange (Exit 13). Reconstruction of the freeway below in 1999 through 2001 saw the repavement of the concrete ramps associated with Exit 13 and replacement of all related highway signs. Thus neutered shields now reside in the location of these removed state-name shields. Photo taken 12/08/99.

Interstate 85 splits with Business Loop Interstate 85 & U.S. 29-70 just north of Groometown Road. The original Interstate 85 alignment continues through central Greensboro while the new Interstate 85 shares pavement with Interstate 40 on a bypass to the southeast. Photo taken 06/22/05.

The northbound on-ramp provides access to Business Loop Interstate 85 & U.S. 29 north and U.S. 70 east into Greensboro, Interstate 40 east & 85 north to Burlington and Durham, Interstate 40 west & 73 north to Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) and Winston-Salem, and Future Interstate 73 & U.S. 220 south to Asheboro.
