Southbound Interstate 75 approaches Exit 329, Junction Florida 44 west to Inverness and Crystal River. Florida 44 also travels east to Wildwood (perhaps best known as the northern terminus of Florida's Turnpike), Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis, DeLand, and New Smyrna Beach, where it ends at Florida A1A. The next exit is Exit 328, Junction Florida 91/Florida's Turnpike. Photo taken 01/18/04.
Interstate 75 approaches a major interchange and decision point for motorists after the Florida 44 interchange. Exit 328 is the split between Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike (Florida 91) southbound. While Interstate 75 is the most direct route to the Tampa-St. Petersburg metropolitan area and Southwest Florida (Fort Myers and Naples), Florida's Turnpike is a quicker and more direct route to the Orlando area and South Florida (including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami). While Interstate 75 is generally a free route to Miami (excepting the tolled Alligator Alley), it is longer than Florida's Turnpike. Photo taken 01/18/04.
Florida's Turnpike is a left exit from Interstate 75. Through traffic on the Interstate should remain in the right two lanes, and the left lane exits only onto southbound Florida's Turnpike. For the first time since leaving Georgia, Interstate 75 reverts to a four-lane configuration. Photo taken 01/18/04.
Southbound Interstate 75 reaches Exit 328, Florida's Turnpike. Time to decide: Orlando/Miami or Tampa/Naples. A slower, non-toll alternate route to Orlando is via Florida 44 east to U.S. 441 south or via U.S. 27 south. Photo taken 01/18/04.
