Interstate 75
Columbia County/Hamilton County - Northbound

| Interstate 75 continues as a six-lane freeway as it enters Columbia County and approaches the first two exits: Exit 414, Junction U.S. 41-441 (not photographed) and Exit 423, Junction Florida 47 to Columbia County Route 242 east. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| The interchange between Interstate 75 and Florida 47 is a diamond interchange. Florida 47 travels south to Fort White and Trenton in Gilchrist County. Florida 47 is also the first exit into Lake City; it merges into U.S. 41/First Street just south of downtown Lake City. From there, Florida 47 silently merges with U.S. 41 and then U.S. 441 until reaching the Georgia State Line, where it becomes Georgia 89. To reach Columbia County Route 242, take Florida 47 north to Columbia County Route 242 east; the county route connects Interstate 75 with U.S. 41-441 to the east. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| The next exit along northbound is Exit 427, Junction U.S. 90. U.S. 90 is a major east-west route, extending from Van Horn, Texas, east to Jacksonville Beach. The highway closely parallels Interstate 10 for much of its length, especially in Florida. U.S. 90 and Interstate 10 are seldom far apart from each other. Here, U.S. 90 heads east into downtown Lake City. This is the second and final exit into Lake City. U.S. 90 is secretly Florida 10, which can be confusing given the presence of Interstate 10 (secret Florida 8) nearby. Use either Interstate 10 or U.S. 90 west to Live Oak, which is located at the junction of U.S. 90 and U.S. 129. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| After the U.S. 90 interchange, Interstate 75 approaches transcontinental Interstate 10, which extends from Santa Monica, California, east to Jacksonville. Interstate 10 connects with all major north-south Interstates, including Interstate 5 in Los Angeles, Interstate 15 in San Bernardino, Interstate 25 in Las Cruces, Interstate 35 in San Antonio, Interstate 55 in Slidell, Interstate 65 in Mobile, Interstate 75 here in Lake City, and Interstate 95 in Jacksonville. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Northbound Interstate 75 approaches Exit 435, Junction Interstate 10, one mile. The arrow on this sign is confusing, since we have not yet arrived at the gore point/exit ramp. However, the interchange is a right exit for both east and westbound directions. For all Panhandle destinations, including Tallahassee (state capital) and Pensacola, use Interstate 10 west. Connections to Panhandle beaches may be made via a variety of state and U.S. routes that connect to the coastal route (U.S. 98/Florida 30). Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Even though a yellow tag is added to this sign for Interstate 10 travelers to use the right lane, there is no exit-only lane. All three lanes will continue north on Interstate 75. In the absence of an overhead sign, the next destination city is Valdosta, and the control city is Macon and Atlanta. Photo taken 01/16/04.

| Northbound Interstate 75 reaches Exit 435, Junction Interstate 10 east to Jacksonville and west to Tallahassee and Pensacola. The northbound control city is listed here as Valdosta. This interchange is another directional interchange, and it is symmetrical even though the appearance of the interchange from above is different than the Interstate 4/Interstate 75 interchange. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Interstate 75 departs from Columbia County and enters Hamilton County, the last Florida county before Interstate 75 crosses into the Peach State. The first Hamilton County exit along northbound Interstate 75 is Exit 439, Junction Florida 136 east to White Springs (Junction U.S. 41) and west to Live Oak (Junction U.S. 90 and U.S. 129). Photo taken 01/16/04.
| After 12 miles, the next interchange along northbound is Exit 451, Junction U.S. 129 south to Live Oak and Chiefland and north to U.S. 41 and Jasper, the seat of Hamilton County. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Northbound Interstate 75 reaches Exit 451, Junction U.S. 129/Florida 57 north to Jasper and south to Live Oak. U.S. 129 is a fairly long route, originating in Chiefland (Junction U.S. 19-27A-98) and traveling north through Georgia and North Carolina's panhandle before culminating at Interstate 40/Interstate 275 in Knoxville, Tennessee. U.S. 129 meets its parent route, U.S. 29, in Athens, Georgia. U.S. 129 provides an alternate route to U.S. 41 between Jasper and Macon. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| The next interchange along northbound is Exit 460, Junction Florida 6 west to Madison and east to Jasper (via U.S. 41 southbound). Hamilton County Route 6 then continues east from Jasper to U.S. 441 in Columbia County, after the Suwannee River. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Northbound Interstate 75 approaches Exit 460, Junction Florida 6, one mile. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| Northbound Interstate 75 reaches Exit 460, Junction Florida 6 east to Jasper and west to Madison in Madison County. Including mileage of shared alignment with U.S. 41, Florida 6 totals 27.54 miles. Photo taken 01/16/04.
| The final exit along northbound Interstate 75 in Florida is Exit 467, Junction Florida 143 to Jennings, 1.75 miles. The next exit is Exit 2, To U.S. 41/Lake Park in Georgia. Florida 143 extends east to Jennings (Junction U.S. 41) and southwest to Blue Springs (Junction Florida 6). Photo taken 01/16/04.
| The last chance to visit the Sunshine State is at Exit 467, Junction Florida 143 (a folded diamond interchange). After this interchange, Interstate 75 departs Florida and enters the Peach State of Georgia. Photo taken 01/16/04.
