Interstate 75 Northbound (Atlanta to Tennessee)

Interstate 75 North
Leading northwest from the Brookwood Interchange, I-75 next meets U.S. 41 (Northside Drive) at a parclo interchange (Exit 252A). Northside Drive travels through the western reaches of the central business district of Atlanta to Interstate 75 and Memorial Park. Four miles to the north the U.S. highway sees a second interchange with the north-south freeway at Exit 256. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Interstate 75 kinks westward after the Interstate 85 (Exit 251) trumpet interchange. The freeway varies between eight and ten lanes northward to U.S. 41 (Exit 252A). Photo taken 08/22/03.
Nearing the Exit 252A off-ramp to Northside Drive. Situated close by is the Exit 252B diamond interchange with Howell Mill Road. The southbound side of Interstate 75 sees a collector distributor roadway between the two interchanges. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Traveling the Interstate 285 ramps to Interstate 75 north. The close proximity of the directional cloverleaf allows for two separate ramps to Exit 260 (Windy Hill Road) from the Interstate 75 mainline and Interstate 285 connecting ramps. Photo taken 08/22/03.
The Exit 260 off-ramp departs the Interstate 285 on-ramp to Interstate 75 northbound. Visible to the right is the Interstate 75 mainline off-ramp to Windy Hill Road. The parclo interchange serves the suburbs of Smyrna (pop. 40,999) and of Marietta (pop. 58,748). Photo taken 08/22/03.
Interstate 75 gains capacity between Windy Hill Road and Exit 260 (Delk Road). The upcoming parclo interchange intersects the eastern terminus of Georgia 280 along Delk Road. The state route loops westward around Dobbins Air Force Base via Cobb Drive to Georgia 5 (Austell Road). Photo taken 08/22/03.
The departure of the Exit 261 off-ramp to Delk Road. The nearby Dobbins A.F.B. is home to Lockheed Aeronautical Systems. Delk Road continues east of Interstate 75 without Georgia 280 into residential neighborhoods of east Marietta. Interstate 75 expands to 12 overall lanes. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Similar to variable message signs in the state of Texas, VMS in the Atlanta area display travel times and other advisories due to accidents, congestion, and closures for the associated freeway. Reference points are generally based on freeway to freeway connections as opposed to freeway to surface arterial interchanges. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Stuck in traffic, a close-up view of the Interstate 75 pull-through and Georgia Loop 120 Westbound guide signs over the northbound Exit 263 collector distributor roadway. Known as the Marietta Parkway, Georgia Loop 120 encircles the city center and the Georgia 120 main route (Roswell Road). Photo taken 08/22/03.
Attached to the Algood Road overpass is the 0.75 mile guide sign of Exit 267A (Canton Road Connector). The Canton Road Connector comprises an expressway northeast from U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway) and Georgia 5 (Church Street) to Interstate 75 and Canton Road (Georgia 754). Photo taken 08/22/03.
Interstate 75 northbound at the Exit 267A departure of Georgia Spur 5 northbound. The Canton Road Connector carries Georgia 5 northbound onto Interstate 75 for a short one mile overlap. East of the freeway, the highway carries Georgia Spur 5 to Georgia 754. The overpass in the background carries Canton Road. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Georgia 5 northbound enters Interstate 75 northbound between Exits 267B and Exit 268 (Interstate 575). Pictured here are the overheads for the Exit 267B cloverleaf of Georgia 5 south within the directional cloverleaf interchange of the Canton Road Connector. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Approaching the split of Interstate 575 & Georgia 5 northbound from Interstate 75 northbound. I-575 stems northward from Exit 268 to Woodstock and Canton. The 30.97 mile freeway remains cosigned with Georgia 5 northward to the terminus at Ball Ground. Photo taken 08/22/03.
Exit 1A guide sign of the first Tennessee interchange for Interstate 75 northbound. U.S. 41 (Ringgold Road) intersects the freeway via a parclo interchange at the city of East Ridge. Photo taken 08/23/03.
Interstate 75 nears the Georgia/Tennessee state line. The U.S. 41 (Exit 1A/B) interchange and Tennessee Welcome Sign draw into view. Ringgold Road also carries U.S. 76 into the Volunteer State. However shields for that designation are not posted on the Exit 1A/B guide signs. Photo taken 08/23/03.
