is Exit 8 with Mississippi 568. This state route travels 16.6 miles southwest to the Louisiana state line.

one mile guide sign for Exit 18/Mississippi 570. Smithdale Road travels between U.S. 51/Northwest Avenue and
Delaware Avenue in the northern reaches of the city. The street derives its name from the village of the same

Interstate 55. While there is no signage to reflect this, Lawrence Street may be signed as Mississippi 198

here to the northwest, U.S. 98 travels 30 miles to U.S. 84 and Bude (pop. 1,037). There the route overlaps 35

| Exit 24 is situated along the Pike and Lincoln County line at
Freeman Road. This local roadway connects Interstate 55 with U.S. 51 and Johnsons Station to the east. County

| The grassy median of Interstate 55 transitions into a tree filled
median. The carriageways are far enough apart that they are not visible from one another. The same configuration

Interstate 55 northbound. While Bogue Chitto travels east to U.S. 51 and the community by the same name,

| Approaching the Exit 38 diamond interchange with U.S. 84
southwest of Brookhaven (pop. 9.861). U.S. 84 is a significant east-west corridor through south-central
Mississippi. The U.S. highway enters the state at Natchez 60 miles to the west. Photo taken 10/23/03.

| U.S. 84 also serves the towns of Bude and Meadville (pop. 519)
along the route to Natchez. U.S. 98 ties into the divided highway between these two towns. Eastward U.S. 84
travels 23 miles to the Lawrence County seat of Monticello (pop. 1,726). A four lane bypass of the town

northbound. The city of Brookhaven itself is four miles to the northeast. U.S. 84 is a divided four lane
expressway from Natchez eastward to the Lincoln/Lawrence County line. Construction will eventually see the
