Interstate 10 Mississippi

Interstate 10 serves the southern three counties of Mississippi between Slidell, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama. The freeway stays a good distance inland from the U.S. 90 corridor and the coastal cities. At present the freeway carries six lanes from Exit 28 to Exit 50 and four lanes elsewhere. Long range planning continues the six-lane segment east to Exit 57 and west to Exit 13.

Scenes Related to Interstate 10
What was a rare find in Mississippi, a state-named shield for Interstate 10 was posted at the eastbound on-ramp from Lorraine-Cowan Road (Mississippi 605) southbound. It was one of only a handful of old state name shields to remain in southern Mississippi at the time and was since replaced. Lorraine-Cowan Road became part of new Mississippi 605 in 2004. The north-south highway serves Gulfport's Bernard Bayou Industrial District and carries four lanes from Interstate 10 to Seaway Road. Traffic lights were installed at the end of the Interstate 10 off-ramps to Lorraine-Cowan Road in 2003. Photos taken 03/20/02.
A generic Interstate 10 shield with smaller numbers replaced the state-named shield pictured in the above photo. Photo taken 06/10/06.
