Interstate 4 - Florida

What happens when an accident hampers traffic during the evening commute along Interstate 4. Photo taken April 29, 2008 looking south from Lake Mary Boulevard at Interstate 4.

Interstate 4 is a diagonal route between Tampa and Daytona Beach via Orlando. It is a rather short Interstate, but it serves major population areas in Central Florida along the U.S. 92 corridor. Interstate 4 has so much traffic that several toll roads have been constructed over the years to provide alternate routes and relief, including the Florida Greeneway/Seminole Expressway (bypass to the east of Orlando), Western Beltway (bypass to the west of Orlando), and Florida 570/Polk Parkway.

Scenes Pertaining to Interstate 4
Approaching Division Avenue along Gore Street westbound in Orlando. Gore Street provides access to Interstate 4 via Florida 527 (Orange Avenue). Photo taken 11/05/06.
Travelers destined to Interstate 4 east are directed onto Division Avenue north to Anderson Street. Division Avenue passes underneath both Interstate 4 and Florida 408 Toll (East-West Expressway) with no direct access to either freeway. Photo taken 11/05/06.
Gore Street west at the Interstate 4 westbound on-ramp. As part of the Interstate 4 & Florida 408 Toll interchange upgrade project, the Interstate 4 westbound off-ramp to Gore street will be removed in 2007-08. The westbound on-ramp remains in place and utilizes the Florida 408 Toll to Interstate 4 connector roadway. Photo taken 11/05/06.
Likely the last Interstate 4 Florida shield posted in the field, this assembly was posted at Ivanhoe Boulevard eastbound at Lakeview Street near the Exit 84 folded-cloverleaf interchange. Photo taken 07/29/06.
A closer look at the Interstate 4 Florida shield on Ivanhoe Boulevard south. Ivanhoe Boulevard encircles Lake Ivanhoe through the Interstate 4 interchange. Lakeview Street and Ivanhoe Boulevard between Edgewater Drive and Interstate 4 are a part of unsigned Orange County 424. Photo taken 07/29/06.
Florida 426 (Fairbanks Avenue) eastbound at the westbound entrance ramp to Interstate 4 in Orlando. Photo taken 12/29/05.
Lake Mary Boulevard joins Interstate 4 with Heathrow to the west and Lake Mary to the east. Its busy six-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange features separate ramps from eastbound onto both directions of Interstate 4. Photo taken 04/29/08.
