Gratigny Parkway

Florida 924 is the Gratigny Parkway, an east-west toll freeway that connects Interstate 75 and Florida 826/Palmetto Expressway to N.W. 32nd Avenue, where the parkway turns into Gratigny Drive/N.W. 119th Street, a surface street. The name "Gratigny" comes from the name of the landowners who owned land in the vicinity of the area prior to development.

Although it is a "parkway," Florida 924/Gratigny Parkway is full freeway standard, with six lanes for its entire length. Interchanges are found at the Florida 953, the LeJeune/Douglas Connector and at West 4th Avenue/N.W. 57th Avenue (5 ramp, SW parclo).

Like many other freeways in the Miami-Dade region, Florida 924/Gratigny Parkway was first proposed in the 1969 Miami Transportation Study. Florida 924 was originally proposed in that study as the Opa-Locka Expressway. The Opa-Locka Expressway was planned to bridge the east-west gap in North Dade, roughly paralleling the existing Gratigny Drive/N.W. 119th Street corridor. The Gratigny Parkway, which was built between December 1987 and January 1992, only occupied the western half of the Opa-Locka Expressway. The section of the Opa-Locka Expressway from N.W. 27th Street east to U.S. 1 was canceled due to community opposition.
