Frontage roads facilitate the movements between Florida 688 (Ulmerton Road) and U.S. 19. U.S. 19 leads southeast into east Pinellas Park, Lealman, and St. Petersburg. Photo taken 11/13/07.
Florida 688 merges with Florida 686 east at the west interchange with Roosevelt Boulevard. The pair continue a short distance to 40th Street North. Photo taken 11/04/07.
The Florida 686 & 688 merge is short, so motorists must quickly move into the appropriate lane for the continuation of Roosevelt Boulevard southeast via Florida 686 or Ulmerton Road east to Interstate 275 via Florida 688. Photo taken 01/28/07.
A traffic light lies at the Florida 686 & 688 intersection with 38th Street North, a local road joining Ulmerton Road with Airco Golf Course to the north and an industrial area to the south. Photo taken 01/28/07.
Florida 688 (Ulmerton Road) ends at Interstate 275 (Exit 31) just southwest of the Howard Frankland Bridge. Access to Interstate 275 south is available at the interchange, but signs direct motorists bound for St. Petersburg onto Florida 686 (Roosevelt Boulevard) for its interchange at Exit 30. Photo taken 01/28/07.
Roosevelt Boulevard carries Florida 686 southeast to a diamond interchange with Interstate 275 and overall to the junction of U.S. 92 & Florida 687 (4th Street North) with Gandy Boulevard (U.S. 92 east / Florida 694 west). Photo taken 01/28/07.

Florida 686 ends at U.S. 92, Florida 687, and Florida 694 in the Gateway area of north St. Petersburg. Photo taken 01/28/07.

Florida 688 (Ulmerton Road) leaves Florida 686 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and sees a reassurance shield, mileage sign to Tampa (13 miles), and Interstate 275 trailblazer. Carillon Parkway West leads south into a corporate center while Egret Boulevard stems north into an area of apartments and condos. Photo taken 01/28/07.

Florida 688 (Ulmerton Road) east defaults onto Interstate 275 north. The right-hand lane however provides access to the freeway south for St. Petersburg. Photo taken 01/28/07.
The southbound ramp also connects with Martin Luther King Jr. Street (Pinellas County 803) south. MLK Jr. Street (9th Street North) parallels Florida 687 and U.S. 92 southward through the Gateway and Fossil Park communities of north St. Petersburg toward downtown. Photo taken 01/28/07.
Florida 688 eastbound at the Interstate 275 southbound off-ramp. The interchange between the two highways was upgraded in the mid 2000s from a simple partial "Y" interchange in conjunction with a redesign of Interstate 275's interchange with Pinellas County 803. Photo taken 01/28/07.
The interchange redesign added both the ramp to Interstate 275 south and the ramp to Pinellas County 803 (Martin Luther King Jr. Street) south. Travelers merging onto Interstate 275 north otherwise cannot depart the freeway until Kennedy Drive in Tampa. That is a dicey proposition given the tendency of the Howard Frankland Bridge to back up during the afternoon peak hours of traffic. Photo taken 01/28/07.
Florida 688 West
