Silver Star Road / Princeton Street

Florida 438 officially travels between Florida 429 Toll (Daniel Webster Western Beltway) and Rio Grande Avenue in College Park Orlando. Two segments of Orange County 438 also exist, one along Oakland Avenue in Oakland and another along Princeton Street through College park.

Florida 438 east
Florida 438 officially begins at the Florida 429 Toll over crossing of Franklin Street in Ocoee. The Western Beltway northbound continues to north Ocoee and the city of Apopka. Photos taken 02/02/08.
The first reassurance marker of Florida 438 resides east of the Western Beltway interchange. Franklin Street quickly reduces to two lanes after the northbound ramps. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Florida 438 (Franklin Street) east quickly approaches its turn onto Ocoee-Apopka Road north near downtown Ocoee. Ocoee-Apopka Road was a part of Orange County 437 and before that Florida 437. A short overlap between Florida 437 & 438 is retained on Ocoee area signage for the two block overlap between Franklin Street and Silver Star Road. Florida 437 and Orange County 437 otherwise do not exist. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Franklin Street continues east as Unsigned Orange County 439 to Taylor STreet. Interests to Ocoee City hall should continue east. Florida 438 east otherwise merges with Florida 437 for the two block drive to Silver Star Road east. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Florida 437 northbound reassurance shield, the only one posted, along Ocoee-Apopka Road north. Ocoee-Apopka Road continues though north Ocoee to Lake Apopka and ultimately the city of Apopka. Much of the route is now paralleled by the Western Beltway. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Florida 438 meanwhile turns east onto Silver Star Road, an east-west arterial between Ocoee and the College Park neighborhood of Orlando. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Silver Star Road initially carries just two lanes as it near Starke Lake north of downtown Ocoee. Photo taken 02/02/08.

The state road must circumvent Stake Lake along a somewhat scenic curved roadway. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Beyond Starke Lake, Florida 438 widens to four lanes on the approach to Clarke Road. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Clarke Road stems north from the former west end of Florida 408 Toll (East-West Expressway) to Clarcona-Ocoee Road in northeast Ocoee. The four-lane arterial highway serves interests to West Oaks Mall southward. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Continuing beyond Clarke Road, Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) gains a grassy median and eventually widens to six lanes. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Woodsmere, an unincorporated community in Orange County, lies east of the Ocoee city line at Good Homes Road. Photo taken 02/02/08.
A set of span-wire supported traffic lights govern the movements between Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) and Lake Stanley Road at Woodsmere. Lake Stanley Road represents the former alignment of Apopka-Vineland Road (Orange County 435) before the highway was extended southward to Florida 50 on a new four-lane roadway to the east. Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) skims the northern reaches of Lake Lucy between Lake Stanley Road and Apopka-Vineland Road. Photo taken 02/02/08.
A lone junction Orange County 435 shield is the only indication that Apopka-Vineland Road north is a county road. An implied overlap carries the county road east to Hiawassee Road south. Otherwise the county highway is vastly unsigned through the west Orlando suburbs. Apopka-Vineland Road south, only constructed in 1995, otherwise leads to Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) near Lake Sherwood. Photo taken 02/02/08.
East of Apopka-Vineland Road, Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) next meets Silver Ridge Drive north and Summer Glen Drive south. Silver Ridge Drive, in conjunction with a few other residential roads, connects the Silver Ridge subdivision with Hiawassee Road. Photo taken 10/02/08.
Orange County 435 doglegs along Florida 438 east from Apopka-Vineland Road to Hiawassee Road south. Hiawassee Road enters the busy intersection with Silver Star Road from Apopka and a swath of unincorporated suburbs of north Pine Hills. Photo taken 10/02/08.
Orange County 435 follows Hiawassee Road 1.75 miles south from Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) to Florida 50 (Colonial Drive). Photo taken 10/02/08.
Florida 438 west
West of Hiawassee Road (Orange County 435 south), Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) leaves the commercial area of Pine Hills. Photo taken 10/02/08.
Silver Ridge Drive and Summer Glen Drive intersect Florida 438 at the next traffic light. Silver Ridge Drive is the main entrance to adjacent Silver Ridge, with connections to Hiawassee Road from the next subdivision. Photo taken 10/02/08.
Orange County 435 resumes its northward course on Apopka-Vineland Road from Florida 438 (Silver Star Road) west. The route between Woodsmere and Apopka (junction U.S. 441) is completely unsigned. Photo taken 10/02/08.
Orange County 438
Orange County 438 travels a short distance in extreme western Orange County along Old Highway 50 between Florida 50 (West Colonial Drive) and the Lake County line. A set of pentagons for Orange 438 lie at the west end of Oakland Avenue in Oakland. Orange County 438 transitions into Old Lake County 50 between the county line and Lake County 455. There is no signed connection with Florida 438 along either Oakland Avenue or Plant Street through Oakland and Winter Garden. Photo taken 11/05/06.
Scenes Pertaining to Florida 438
Plant Street west
Florida 438 used to follow Plant Street west from Crown Point Road through the city of Winter Garden to junction Florida 537 (Dillard Street). Now the designation ends officially at the partial-cloverleaf interchange with Florida 429 Toll via Franklin Street. Pictured here is the Plant Street intersection with Florida 537 (Dillard Street) at the entrance into the historic downtown. Florida 537 constitutes a short north-south route between Plant Street and Florida 50 (Colonial Drive). Photo taken 02/02/08.
Plant Street continues beyond Florida 537 (Dillard Street) into downtown. The brick lined street splits into a one-way street couplet. Storefronts line the first floors of the area buildings and the West Orange Trail now occupies the former railroad corridor through town. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Plant Street east
Plant Street (former Florida 438) traveling east through historic downtown Winter Garden. Photo taken 02/02/08.
The eastern departure of Plant Street from downtown occurs at junction Florida 537 (Dillard Street) south. Florida 537 spurs 1.027 miles south from Plant Street to junction Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) at Daniels Road. Photo taken 02/02/08.
Continuing east, Plant Street transitions into Franklin Street at the Ocoee City line (Crown Point Road). Beyond that intersection is the partial-cloverleaf interchange (Exit 24) with Florida 429 Toll (Daniel Webster Western Beltway). Photo taken 02/02/08.

A loop ramp carries drivers onto Florida 429 Toll south. Florida 429 Toll interchanges with both Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) and the Florida's Turnpike mainline within two miles. The toll road otherwise continues through Winter Garden en route to Interstate 4 in northwest Osceola County. Photo taken 02/02/08.
