Finally motorists reaches Florida 527 (Orange Avenue) via Lucerne Circle East west. Lucerne Circle South enters from across Orange Avenue; Florida 527 south intersects Gore Street in one block. Orange Avenue north partitions into Rosalind Avenue (Florida 527 north) and Magnolia Avenue from the middle of Lake Lucerne. Continuing east, Florida 408 Toll next interchanges with Florida 15 (Mills Avenue) at the Exit 11B three-quarter diamond interchange. Construction to modernize and expand the East-West Expressway was underway from downtown eastward in 2006-07. Photo taken 11/05/06.
Nearing the Exit 11B off-ramp onto Florida 15. Florida 15 follows Mills Avenue northward to junction U.S. 17-92 (Mills Avenue) at their split with Florida 50 (Colonial Drive). Florida 15 becomes a hidden number for U.S. 17 from that point northward. Photo taken 11/05/06.
Exit 11B carries drivers into the intersection of Mills Avenue and Anderson Street from Florida 408 Toll eastbound. Florida 15 travels the one-way street couplet of Anderson Street (east) and South Street (west) in the shadow of the East-West Expressway. Florida 15 north meanwhile partitions into a brief one-way street couplet around Lake Lawsona via Brown Avenue (north) and Thornton Avenue (south) before resuming along Mills Avenue at junction Florida 526 (Robinson Street). Exit 12A consists of an off-ramp leading onto parallel Florida 15 (Anderson Street) southbound before it intersects Bumby Avenue. Florida 15 continues along side Florida 408 Toll through to Crystal Lake Drive (Florida 526) and Lake Underhill. Exit 12B serves Florida 526 directly from Florida 408 Toll westbound. Exit 13 joins Florida 408 Toll directly with Florida 15 (South Conway Road) as the state road departs the East-West Expressway frontage for Conway and Belle Isle. Photo taken 01/13/04.
Florida 15 follows Lake Underhill Road between Exit 12B and the Exit 13 partial "Y" interchange with Florida 408 Toll. The state road turns southward onto South Conway Road from Lake Underhill to junction Orange County 506 (Hoffner Avenue). Orange County 506 overtakes South Conway Road on its southward trajectory to Judge Road and junction Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway). Florida 408 Toll passes by the Orlando Executive Airport (ORL) between Lake Underhill and junction Florida 436 (Semoran Boulevard). The stretch of freeway includes the Holland East main line Toll Plaza. Semoran Boulevard constitutes a busy north-south arterial through eastern Orlando, originating at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and ending at U.S. 17 & 92 (Dixie Highway) in name at Casselberry. Florida 551 (Goldenrod Road) meets Florida 408 Toll at the next eastbound interchange (Exit 16). Like Semoran Boulevard, Florida 551 also consists of a busy north-south arterial through eastern reaches of Orlando. LAke Underhill Road finally departs the East-West Expressway frontage here on its own path to Chickasaw and Econlockhatchee Trails through the Rio Pinar community. Exit 18A joins Florida 408 Toll with Florida 417 Toll (Central Florida Greeneway) northbound via unsigned Florida 4080, a short connector freeway between the two toll roads. Exit 18A consists of a partial "Y" interchange between the two highways east of the Chickasaw Trail overpass. Florida 4080 includes a diamond interchange (Exit 1) with Valencia College Lane. Florida 408 Toll loses its left-hand lane to the Exit 18A left-hand off-ramp onto Florida 4080 north to Florida 417 Toll north. Florida 417 Toll provides the eastern beltway for the Orlando metropolitan area, serving Oviedo, Winter Springs, Sanford, and Lake Mary on the northward drive into Seminole County. Travelers bound for Florida 417 Toll north depart Florida 408 Toll east at Exit 18A. Florida 4080 travels one half mile north to Valencia College Lane and one mile onto the left-hand side of Florida 417 North. Upon crossing the Seminole County line at Bertha and Jamestown, Florida 417 Toll becomes the Seminole Expressway. Florida 417 Toll ends at junction Interstate 4 otherwise in 22 miles. Less than a mile east, Florida 408 Toll reaches Exit 18B onto Florida 417 Toll (Central Florida Greeneway) south. Central Florida Greeneway is the name for all of Florida 417 Toll within Orange County. Florida 408 Toll curves northward on its final approach to junction Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) and Challenger Parkway. Busy Colonial Drive is why the East-West Expressway was originally built. Consisting of a busy arterial, Florida 50 travels westward through University Park, Union Park, and east Orlando. Florida 408 bypasses those communities to provide a direct route to downtown Orlando. Florida 50 continues east to Lockwood before thinning out on the drive to Bithlo and Christmas in rural eastern Orange County.
