Florida 295 / Fairfield Drive

Known as Navy Boulevard from the beginning at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida 295 forms a ring around southwest Pensacola. The state highway, which takes on three different names, becomes New Warrington Road at U.S. 98 (which takes on the Navy Boulevard namesake) northward to U.S. 90. Just before reaching U.S. 90, Florida 295 upgrades to a short expressway. This partial-limited access highway has an underpass for Florida 298 and a partial interchange with U.S. 90 and Florida 727. At Florida 727, Florida 295 merges onto Fairfield Road and turns northeasterly. Intersections with Florida 292/Pace Boulevard, Florida 752/Texar Drive, and Florida 291/Davis Highway impede traffic between the expressway and the northern terminus at Florida 289/Ninth Avenue. Exit 4 of Interstate 110 exists with Florida 295, and adds to the traffic counts.

Mileage: 8.36 (Source: Original Florida Route Log compiled by Justin Cozart)
Southern Terminus - Pensacola Naval Air Station
Florida 295 draws to a close at the Main Gate of Pensacola Naval Air Station. This entrance is located at the south end of the Bayou Grande crossing of Navy Boulevard. Pictured here is a busy sign bridge with various information regarding the military facility. No end shield is posted for the north-south highway. Photo taken 12/21/03.
Northern Terminus - Florida 289/Pensacola
Florida 295 northbound concludes at Ninth Avenue (Florida 289). Continuing northeast on Fairfield Drive leads one to 12th Avenue and Bayou Boulevard (Florida 296). Situated northward along 12th Avenue is Pensacola Regional Airport and the backside of Cordova Mall. Photo taken 06/19/05.
Florida 289 southbound at Fairfield Drive. The shield assembly is incorrect in that Florida 295 does not continue north to the left. Fairfield Drive however continues another three blocks to its merge with 12th Avenue just south of Florida 296 (Bayou Boulevard) and Summit Boulevard. Motorists turning south onto Florida 296 reach the confluence of Florida 291 and Interstate 110 within one half mile. Photo taken 05/09/04.

Florida 295 contains a short limited access connector between Fairfield Drive (Florida 727) and New Warrington Road. There is a partial interchange with U.S. 90 (Mobile Highway) and an overpass (no connection) with the Lillian Highway (Florida 298). The highway carries two lanes northbound, and one continuous lane southbound. The speed limit is only 40 miles per hour.

Florida 295 Guide

Florida 295 North
Florida 295 begins at the Main Gate to Pensacola Naval Air Station south of Bayou Grande. Featured in this photograph is the north end of the waterway crossing and sign bridge posting the residential speed limit of Navy Boulevard. Florida 295 enters the Warrington area at this point. Photo taken 12/21/03.
The center of Warrington is located at the junction of Florida 295 northbound with Florida 292 (Gulf Beach Highway & Barrancas Avenue). Florida 292 is a primary east-west arterial between Pensacola and the southwestern resort area of Perdido Key and the south Alabama beaches. Florida 295 will again intersect Florida 292 via Fairfield Drive. Photo taken 12/21/03.
East of the Pensacola Naval Hospital, Florida 295 (Navy Boulevard) merges with U.S. 98. The paired highways share a six-lane 0.3 mile overlap northward to the south end of New Warrington Road. Photo taken 12/21/03.
U.S. 98 overtakes the Navy Boulevard naming convention and turns eastward toward downtown Pensacola. Florida 295 enters New Warrington Road, continuing northward to Brownsville and eventually Interstate 110. Photo taken 12/21/03.
New Warrington Road itself sees a substantial amount of commercial development along its frontage. This northward photograph displays the first northbound shield posted after the departure from the U.S. 98 overlap. New Warrington Road carries four lanes with a grassy median northward to the Florida 295 Expressway. Photo taken 12/21/03.
The western terminus of the scant Florida 294 as seen from Florida 295 northbound. Known as Chief's Way, Florida 294 composes the original U.S. 98 alignment between New Warrington Road and Navy Boulevard. Navy Boulevard saw relocation from this right-angle alignment to the current curved portion to the southeast. The guide sign to the right displays "Naval Technical Training School Corry Station". Photo taken 12/21/03.
Approaching the beginning of the short Florida 295 expressway on New Warrington Road northbound. Pictured here is a new guide sign directing traffic wishing to access U.S. 90 eastbound onto the older Florida 295 alignment. What also should be displayed is the fact that Florida 298 westbound is only accessible via the two lane surface street. Photo taken 12/20/03.
New Warrington Road veers to the northeast as Florida 295 enters a short expressway over Florida 298 (Lillian Highway) and U.S. 90 (Mobile Highway). In place of a direct ramp from northbound Florida 295 to eastbound U.S. 90, movements are handled by the original Florida 295 roadway. Florida 295 signs are still posted along New Warrington Road between here and U.S. 90. Photo taken 12/20/03.
The interchange of Florida 295 and U.S. 90 is a partial cloverleaf. Pictured here is the westbound loop ramp for the Mobile Highway westbound. U.S. 90 remains suburban in nature between here and Florida 173 (Blue Angel Parkway). The naming convention of U.S. 90 relates to the connection with Mobile, Alabama. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Approaching the merge onto Fairfield Drive eastbound (Florida 727). A partial "Y" interchange facilitates movements from Fairfield Drive southbound onto Florida 295. While Florida 727 is supposed to conclude at this junction, Florida 727 shields can be found along Florida 295 to the north. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Now on the five lane surface arterial that is Fairfield Drive, Florida 295 approaches Escambia County 453 (W Street). W Street is a secondary arterial through west Pensacola and the Brownsville and Brent communities. The highway begins at U.S. 98 Business (Garden Street) and ends at U.S. 29 (Pensacola Boulevard). Photo taken 12/20/03.
One of two Florida 727 mainline shields posted along Fairfield Drive eastbound. This particular assembly is placed where a Florida 295 shield should be posted just east of the W Street intersection. Photo taken 05/08/04.
Florida 295 northbound as it nears Florida 292 (Pace Boulevard). Florida 292 is an alternate route from Pensacola N.A.S. to U.S. 29 and Interstate 10 through Pensacola. The surface arterial also serves the Warrington community west of the city limits. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Fairfield Road eastbound at junction Florida 292 (Pace Boulevard). Florida 292 merges with U.S. 29 at its northern terminus one mile to the north. Pace Boulevard travels southward 1.75 miles to its merge with U.S. 98 at U.S. 90 (Cervantes Street). Photo taken 05/08/04.
Florida 727 is posted in lieu of Florida 295 in this reassurance shield assembly east of Pace Boulevard. This shield contradicts Florida 295 junction and directional signs at the Pace Boulevard intersection placed on Florida 292 north and south. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Split of Florida 295/Fairfield Drive with Florida 752/Texar Drive. Florida 752 is a short state route linking Florida 295 with Florida 289/Ninth Avenue. It crosses Interstate 110 without access. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Florida 295 (Fairfield Drive) northbound at Texar Drive, the eastbound beginning of Florida 752. Florida 725 is a short arterial linking Florida 295 and Florida 289 (Ninth Avenue). Florida 295 continues along Fairfield Drive northeasterly to the Exit 4 interchange of Interstate 110. Florida 752 meanwhile crosses over the Pensacola freeway spur without access. Photo taken 12/20/03.
After passing through the diamond interchange with Interstate 110, Florida 291 intersects the busy north-south Florida 291 (Davis Highway) corridor. This state highway mirrors the freeway from downtown to Interstate 10 Exit 13. Florida 295 is quite congested through the intersection eastward to Ninth Avenue. This photograph displays an eastbound reassurance shield just beyond the Davis Highway intersection. Photo taken 06/19/05.
Nearing the northern terminus of Florida 295 at Florida 289 (Ninth Avenue). Ninth Avenue is a second north-south surface arterial parallelling Interstate 110 to the east. The four lane roadway ends near the Pensacola Bay waterfront. Photo taken 06/19/05.
Florida 295 draws to a close at Ninth Avenue. Continuing northeast on Fairfield Drive leads one to 12th Avenue and Bayou Boulevard (Florida 296). Situated northward along 12th Avenue is Pensacola Regional Airport and the backside of Cordova Mall. Photo taken 06/19/05.
Florida 295 South
Westbound on Fairfield Drive as it nears the split with Florida 295. The upcoming partial "Y" interchange composes the northern terminus of Florida 727. There is no direct access between Florida 295 north and Florida 727 south. Nor is there direct access for Florida 727 northbound motorists onto Florida 295 south. These movements are handled by the nearby U.S. 90 interchange with Florida 295. Photo taken 12/21/03.
Beginning of the limited access portion of Florida 295 on Fairfield Drive Westbound. Florida 727 begins and continues along Fairfield Drive, while Florida 295 makes it southerly turn towards Pensacola Naval Air Station. Photo taken 12/21/03.
