Western Terminus - Escambia County 95A/Ensley
Escambia County 95A (Palafox Street) northbound at the western terminus of Florida 290 (Olive Road) at the community of Olive. Palafox Street represents the original U.S. 29 alignment through north Pensacola. The two-lane alignment constitutes a good alternate to the congested U.S. 29 (Pensacola Boulevard) to the west. Florida 290's end here is a remnant from its days as U.S. 29. Photo taken 05/07/04.
Eastern Terminus - U.S. 90/north of Pensacola
Junction U.S. 90 shield, posted along the final stretch of Florida 290 eastbound. Similar to the eastern terminus of Florida 742, Florida 290 descends to the Escambia Bayfront and U.S. 90 (Scenic Highway). Photo taken 05/07/04.
Florida 290 draws to a close without an end shield. U.S. 90 carries two lanes northward to Nine Mile Road and the Santa Rosa County communities of Pace and Milton. Southward U.S. 90 meets the Exit 17 Interstate 10 interchange in three miles. Photo taken 12/06/03.
U.S. 90 undulates over several hills on the drive from southeast Pensacola to Nine Mile Road. Pictured here is the approach to the eastern end of Florida 290 (Olive Road) on Scenic Highway northbound. Like Florida 742 to the south, Florida 290 descends into the terminus intersection with U.S. 90. Photo taken 12/20/03

The eastbound beginning and first reassurance shield of Florida 290 as it travels Olive Road east from Palafox Street (Escambia County 95A) at Olive itself. The two-lane roadway traverses residential areas on the 2.4 mile drive to junction Florida 291 (Davis Highway). Photo taken 05/07/04.
Rebuilt as part of the Interstate 10 & 110 construction, Davis Highway now accomodates more traffic through its busy intersection with Florida 290 (Olive Road). Depicted here is the junction as seen from Olive Road eastbound. Photo taken 05/07/04.
Florida 290 eastbound as it departs the sprawling and congested intersection with Florida 291 (Davis Highway). The aforementioned construction project expanded Florida 291 between University Mall and University Parkway. The road work entails improvements at the Interstate 10 interchange and Olive Road intersection. Florida 290 widens in both directions within the vicinity of Florida 291 in association with the 2002 completed project. Photo taken 12/21/03.
Olive Road carries Florida 290 2.1 miles east through the Ferry Pass area to junction Florida 289 (Ninth Avenue). Ninth Avenue constitutes a north-south arterial through northeast and eastern reaches of the Pensacola city limits. The state route also provides a route to Pensacola Regional Airport from Florida 290 and Florida 742. Photo taken 05/07/04.
The northern terminus of Florida 289 as seen from Florida 290 eastbound. This intersection represents the north end of the main portion of Ninth Avenue (Ninth Avenue sees a disjointed spur from Johnson Avenue north of Olive Road). Florida 289 links north Pensacola and the Ferry Pass community with the bayfront of the city. Photo taken 05/07/04.
