Florida 10A

The underlying state route that cosigns with U.S. 90 as it dips into Pensacola between the termini of Alternate U.S. 90/Nine Mile Road.

Mileage: 26.98 (37.63) (Source: Original Florida Route Log compiled by Justin Cozart)
Western Terminus - Alternate U.S. 90/near Alabama State Line
Approaching the western terminus of U.S. 90 Alternate (Nine Mile Road) on the Mobile Highway eastbound. This junction is set at an otherwise sleepy rural location. Photo taken 12/20/03
U.S. 90 expands to four lanes with a grassy median in anticipation of Alternate U.S. 90. This photograph depicts a newly installed guide sign complete with backplated shields. Nine Mile Road bypasses Pensacola to the north as the Mobile Highway sinks southeasterly toward the city. Photo taken 12/20/03
A second guide sign displays the control points for both U.S. 90 and Alternate U.S. 90. Milton is featured for the Nine Mile Road as is the connection with Interstate 10 Exit 5. U.S. 90A itself is not a useful through route for motorists destined for the Santa Rosa County seat. Development and suburban sprawl results in heavy congestion on the east-west highway. Photo taken 12/20/03
Nine Mile Road continues the eastward push of Mobile Highway as U.S. 90 continues southeasterly. Both highways continue in rural fashion for the next several miles. Photo taken 12/20/03
U.S. 90 Alternate ends unceremoniously at U.S. 90 (Mobile Highway) 4.3 miles west of Interstate 10. There is no end shield for U.S. 90A nor is there any indication of the transition of Nine Mile Road into Mobile Highway. This junction represents the western terminus of unsigned Florida 10A. Photo taken 12/20/03.
Eastern Terminus - Alternate U.S. 90/north of Pensacola
U.S. 90/Scenic Highway eastbound approaching the eastern terminus of Alternate U.S. 90/Nine Mile Road. The signage is incorrect in that the Alternate tab is centered of both shields. The actuality is that U.S. 90 overtakes Nine Mile Road and U.S. 90A northeastward to the Santa Rosa County line. The Escambia River itself denotes the county boundary and is the location where Scenic Highway ends. Photo taken 05/31/04.
The eastern terminus of both U.S. 90 Alternate and Florida 10A (Florida 10A travels between the endpoint of U.S. 90A on U.S. 90). Turning west will take one to the University of West Florida campus, Ferry Pass, and U.S. 29. Eastward U.S. 90 crosses over wetlands associated with Escambia Bay en route to Pea Ridge, Pace, and the Santa Rosa County seat of Milton. Photo taken 12/21/03.
Nine Mile Road eastbound as it nears U.S. 90 (Scenic Highway). The upcoming junction represents the terminus of both U.S. 90 Alternate and hidden Florida 10A. Photo taken 12/21/03.
U.S. 90 Alternate eastbound defaults onto U.S. 90 east. In the background is construction involving a new span over the Escambia River. This project replaces an older span and should be complete by 2004. Photo taken 12/21/03.
The eastern terminus of U.S. 90 Alternate at Scenic Highway. The crossing in the background represents the Escambia and Santa Rosa County line. To the right, U.S. 90 westbound straddles the Escambia Bayfront en route to Exit 17 of Interstate 10 and the city of Pensacola. Photo taken 12/21/03.
