The first reassurance marker for Lee County 78A just west of Business U.S. 41 (unsigned Florida 739) in North Fort Myers. Lee County 78A, locally known as Pondella Road, pushes west 3.50 miles before terminating at the intersection with Florida 78 (Pine Island Road) in northeastern Cape Coral. Photo taken 11/09/08.
Lee County 78A approaches the intersection of U.S. 41 (Cleveland Avenue). The north-south highway is a vital link between several metropolitan areas in southwest Florida including nearby Fort Myers to the south with Sarasota and Tampa to the north. Photo taken 11/09/08.
This portion of U.S. 41 was opened to traffic in 1963 as a bypass with at-grade intersections around the western part of North Fort Myers. The U.S. highway is also referred to as the Tamiami Trail, whose name was derived from the two metropolitan areas it connects, Tampa and Miami. The road was completed between the two cities in the late 1920's. Photo taken 11/09/08.
A reassurance marker just west of the U.S. 41 intersection. Originally a two-lane road west of U.S. 41, Lee County 78A (Pondella Road) was upgraded to a multilane arterial with a continuous left-turn lane for the remainder of its trek to Florida 78 (Pine Island Road). Photo taken 11/09/08.
Pondella Road crosses the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and McNeill Road. Orange Grove Boulevard stems south of Lee County 78A connecting with Hancock Bridge Parkway 1.10 miles away. McNeill Road branches northward serving several residences before turning into a graded road. Photo taken 11/09/08.
