Business Loop Interstate 40 - East

Business Loop Interstate 40 East
Beyond the split with Interstate 40 east, Business Loop Interstate 40 east & U.S. 421 south pass underneath Future Interstate 840 & Interstate 73 via a new right-hand exit (Exit 212). The original carriageway was removed during the construction of the Painter Boulevard and Future Interstate 840-73 interchange. Exit 25 (former Exit 213) still joins Guilford College Road with the original Interstate 40 at the next interchange. Photo taken 07/24/04.
The lane gained from Painter Boulevard and Future Interstate 73 south & 840 west departs for Exit 25 to Guilford College Road. A folded-diamond interchange joins Business Loop Interstate 40 & U.S. 421 with the four-lane arterial south of Market Street in west Greensboro. Guilford College Road continues south to Guilford Technical Community College and U.S. 29 & 70 near High Point. Photo taken 07/24/04.
Wendover Parkway crosses paths with Business Loop Interstate 40 & U.S. 421 at the Exit 26 partial-cloverleaf interchange. The parkway constitutes a heavily traveled six to eight-lane commercial arterial leading east through west Greensboro toward downtown. Photo taken 07/24/04.
Exit 214A departs Business Loop Interstate 40 east & U.S. 421 south for Wendover Avenue west. Wendover Avenue ventures 4.7 miles west to its merge with North Carolina 68 (Eastchester Drive) at Deep River. Photo taken 07/24/04.
A loop ramp (Exit 214B) carries drivers onto Wendover Avenue east ahead of the Terra Cotta and Pomona communities. Wendover Avenue upgrades into a freeway at Spring Garden Street on the 5.8-mile drive to junction U.S. 220 (Battleground Avenue) near Lake Daniel and Irving Park. Photo taken 07/24/04.
Next in line for eastbound drivers is the Exit 28 (former Exit 216) partial "Y" interchange with North Carolina 6 (Patterson Street). North Carolina 6 almost acts like a business loop for Business Loop Interstate 40, traveling Patterson and Lee Streets through the Greensboro central business district. Photo taken 07/24/04.
Both North Carolina 6 (Patterson Street) and High Point Road serve the Greensboro Coliseum area at their intersection north of Business Loop Interstate 40 & U.S. 421. North Carolina 6 follows an industrial corridor parallel to the Norfolk-Southern Railroad line to High Point Road, where the highway turns onto Lee Street for downtown. Photo taken 07/24/04.

Continuing to within one half mile of Exit 29 six-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange with High Point Road on Business Loop Interstate 40 east & U.S. 421 south. High Point Road represents the historic alignment of U.S. 29A & 70A, old alternate routes of U.S. 29-70 between High Point and Greensboro. The federal highway tandem was decertified in 1993.1 Photo taken 07/24/04.
