Alabama 287

Alabama 287 continues the Gulf Shores Parkway moniker from Alabama 59 near Bay Minette to Interstate 65. The Parkway was expanded to four lanes by Summer of 2001. At Alabama 59, Alabama 287 turns southeasterly to downtown Bay Minette (pop. 7820), county seat of Baldwin County. The four lane avenue terminates at U.S. 31 near the county courthouse. Counties: Baldwin

Northbound end Alabama 287 shield at the interchange with Interstate 65. Interstate 65 and the associated ramps are actually just south of this location, with Baldwin County 47 continuing northward through pine forest and farmland towards the village of Rabun. Photo taken 07/01.
Baldwin County is good about posting end shields for their county highways. This looks southbound at the same location of that in the above photograph. Alabama 287 quickly widens to five lanes as part of the Gulf Shores Parkway on the south side of the diamond interchange. The widening project was completed by 2001, and gives at least four lanes of travel between Gulf Shores and Interstate 65. Photo taken 07/01.
