Alabama 177
Alabama 177 loops into Jackson (pop. 5419), the county seat of Clarke County, from U.S. 43. The routing is currently being four-laned from the southern terminus to industrial areas on the Tombigbee River to accommodate increasing truck traffic. The southern terminus of Alabama 69 occurs at Alabama 177 at downtown Jackson. Alabama 177 is the original routing of U.S. 43, which now bypasses the town to the northwest on a four-lane alignment. Counties: Clarke

15. The state highway is two lanes here (without pavement markings) as the highway nears downtown. This is
the northern terminus of that highway. County 15 spurs southwards toward Rockville and Carlton in an isolated
portion of Clarke County. Photo taken 02/10/02.

| One of the few remaining kilometer markers that once graced all Interstate, U.S., and State highways within the Heart of Dixie. By 1996, km posts were installed throughout the state. However negative public opinion and actual confusion by some residents led the Governor to remove the metric signage from most of the state. Occasionally one can find a straggler such as this, or one can find a kilometer post turned 90 degrees (some of the metric signage was handled in this fashion rather then removed). One particular kilometer post can be found on Interstate 10 near Exit 27 on westbound. Photo taken 02/10/02.

Alabama 69 turns to the northwest and intersects U.S. 43 via a modified diamond interchange. The southern terminus of Alabama 69 marks the conclusion of a north-south route that begins in Guntersville and passes through Tuscaloosa in the upstate. Photo taken 02/10/02.

| The northern terminus of Alabama 177 occurs at this intersection with U.S. 43. An end shield is in place, unlike at the southern terminus. U.S. 43 proceeds another 14 miles to the U.S. 84 at the town of Grove Hill. Photo taken 02/10/02.
