Alabama 47
A southern terminus at U.S. 84 at the village of Mexia, Alabama 47 turns east to downtown Monroeville before teaming up with Alabama 21 northward. Traffic seemed very light between U.S. 84 and Business Alabama 21. Counties: Monroe, Wilcox

| Southern terminus of Alabama 47 at U.S. 84 within the hamlet
of Mexia. Typical of many rural state terminus intersections, Alabama 47 splits between two ramps to U.S. 84.
Although shrouded by darkness in the first photograph, and end sign is posted. Not much can be said about
Mexia, because not much exists. The role of Alabama 47 is to connect Monroeville with Mexia and U.S. 84 for
traffic headed west to Grove Hill (pop. 1438). U.S. 84 is the only Alabama River crossing between Clarke and
Monroe Counties. Photo taken 06/01/02.

| First northbound Alabama 47 shield, posted across the highway from the above two photograph scenes. A few houses dot the scene, as Alabama 47 descends into a valley between the five miles that separate U.S. 84 and Monroeville. Photo taken 06/01/02.

| Railroad trestle over Alabama 47 northbound midway between Mexia and Monroeville. This railroad line is a part of the Norfolk-Southern system. This scene reminds one of the old South, an increasing hard find with the burgeoning growth of Atlanta's and Nashville's. Photo taken 06/01/02.

| In downtown Monroeville, as is typical in other southern
towns such as Bay Minette, the road system forms a square. The square shuttles the mixture of Alabama 21
Business, Alabama 41, and Alabama 47. Not sure what Truck Alabama 41 is about, as no other signs for this
route were found. Photograph is taken from Alabama 21 Business/Alabama 47 south, at the split of the two
highways. Alabama 41 exits the square one block to the north, and enters one block to the east. On street
parking is available throughout the square, as county government facilities are situated nearby. The
blistered shield assembly is located in front of what appeared to be a variety store. Overall the economic
situation in Monroeville appeared grim. Photo taken 06/01/02.
